General
Impression of Barefoot Chardonnay, 2003
Wow for five bucks! That
was what I was muttering as I brought down the glass after my
first taste of Barefoot Chardonnay. I was rather shocked
honestly at how good this wine is. It did not help
impressions that I had to look on the back to find the date of
the wine is very small numbers below the UPC code. But
this is an excellent Chardonnay. Very easy to drink and very
easy to like and just as good as many popular Chardonnays that
are 2-3 times higher. Doesn't have that really heavy oak
that some nice Chards do but there is nothing wrong with this
one especially at 5 bucks.
What
Flavors are Most Dominant or Evident In This Wine?
green
apple, peach, honey, vanilla,
What
foods will this wine go well with?
This is a delicate and fun
Chardonnay so it is best to stick with typical white wine rules
here. Seafood, chicken, cheese would all be nice.
Pasta would be good but it will pair best with white sauces or
very mild red sauces. Grilled Chicken is a natural fit.
Consider grilling chicken thigh and leg sections brushed with a
terikai glaze and wrapped in a slice or two of bacon.
Grill them till the skin an bacon are both crisp. Add a
greek or ceasear salad and some warm bread. Such a meal
could not want a better wine to enjoy with it.
What's
Grapes are In Barefoot Chardonnay, 2003?
The wine is called a
"blend" but I can find no information online or
anywhere as to the actual make up of the wine. Perhaps
they add a bit of Sauvignon Blanc. Of course it is clearly
mostly Chardonnay. What ever it is it is exceptional at
this price point.
Will
I keep it In My Wine Rack, If So How Much?
Sure from time to time a
bottle or two. It won't be a great wine to age or anything
so no reason to stock up to heavy. Easy to find at most
local stores so I will only keep a few around unless I hear
stock is running low.
Who Is Going to Enjoy This Wine?
Anyone who enjoys a light,
crisp semi dry white wine will love it. If you like white
wines but 47 Pound
Rooster was a bit of a more intense Chardonnay then you like
give this one a whirl it should be perfect for you. If you
or someone you know is a blush addict (you know who you are)
then this is a good trasition to a white wine. In short if
you don't like this then I guess you just don't like light and
enjoyable white wines.
What
Does the Bottle or Vintners Web Site Say About this Wine?
From
the Bottle - "Barefoot Chardonnay is a
delightful wine with tempting flavors of green apples and
peaches. Hints of honey and vanilla enhance the buttery
finish.". Bare foot Chardonnay is perfect with
seafood poultry, fresh fruits, white sauce pastas and mild
cheeses, wonderful!
