Where
we got it and how much it cost.
Local Albertsons grocery story
for 7.99 a bottle. I have seen it at numerous retailers
for anywhere from 6-9 dollars. Well distributed and fairly
easy to find.
General
Impression of HRM Rex Goliath Giant 47 Pound Rooster Chardonnay
Well
it is a big name and for a chardonnay and a sub 10 dollar one it
is a big wine. It is certainly a bigger wine then many
good and well liked chardonnays like say Kendall Jackson or
similar. There is a good oak quality but the intensity of
flavor makes it less pronounced then lighter oaked
versions. If you only enjoy Chardonnays for the oak this
many not be a perfect fit for you. That said I personally
loved it.
What
Flavors are Most Dominant or Evident In This Wine?
Citrus,
Tropical Fruit, Oak
What
foods will this wine go well with?
Like most
white wines this one will go very well with chicken or fish and
because it has some real deep flavors it would go well with
spicy or heavily seasoned chicken. Not bad with a salad
and bread sticks either and of course many cheeses would pair
well with it.
What's
Grapes are In Dancing Bull Zinfandel by Rancho Zabaco, 2003?
100% Chardonnay (unconfirmed
but it does not seem to be a blend)
Will
I keep it In My Wine Rack, If So How Much?
Indeed the wine is a good
Chard and has enough going on to handle being around for say a
year or a bit longer so it would be a good white to keep a few
bottles on hand of. It has a unique flavor and lots of
things going on and each time you drink it you can find
something new if you want to. It is also a basic wine you
can just drink so I plan to stock 2-3 bottles regularly.
Who Is Going to Enjoy This Wine?
Well it is not for those who
only enjoy blush and delicate whites. But most people who
enjoy a dry fruity and oaky chardonnay will enjoy this one.
What
Does the Bottle or Vintners Web Site Say About this Wine?
From
the back of the bottle: "The Rex
Goliath Story - At the turn of the 20th Century HRM (His Royal Majesty)
Rex Goliath was the treasured attraction of a Texas
Circus. People came from far and wide to behold the 47 lb
bird, billed as the "World's Largest
Rooster". Our label replicates the one of a
kind, vintage artwork from the circus banner that hung above
Rex's roost and we proudly honor HRM with our premium varietal
wines
Amidst the Natural splendor
of Monterey County, our vineyards enjoy the most optimum growing
conditions and the beauty of an untamed hillside
landscape. We invite you to raise a toast to Rex with our
"free range" Chardonnay".
